Tenue du jour: Olive Oyl

This look is inspired by Popeye and his lover, Olive Oyl. I love how the blue and red color palette gives my oufit a nautical look. This swallow print dress is my favorite by far. Why? Simply because I can twirl in it on a breezy morning. The "plastic bag" with Olive Oyl printed on it is the cherry on top. This hard box-like bag has always been a pretty ornament on my dressing table. Finally, it gets to come out, see the daylight and play. I hope you have a great week ahead. :)

Tenue du jour: Paint The Town Red

This outfit is inspired by "the checkers", a favorite board game when I was a child. I love pairing black with red as the latter spices up an otherwise boring color, worn mainly by executives in the wallstreet. This flimsy cardigan with lace sleeves is perfect for summer, which is all year long where I come from. It keeps me warm in a chilly air-conditioned room but not thick enough to make me perspire under hot scorching sun. As for the background, I'm not sure why I kept being drawn to luxury watch boutiques. Maybe it's a "sign" (pun intended). :P

Guerlain La Petite Robe Noir & More

Guerlain La Petite Robe Noir Parfum

I do realize this post is long overdue but I just couldn't find the time to take nice pictures of these new babies sitting on my dressing table. It's better late than never, right? :)

Well, I'm finally done with another exam (again) a few days ago but I felt too lethargic to do anything. But I've been making mental notes for my blog though.
So, back to this nouveau parfum by Guerlain, it's my latest obsession. It's not just the smell that entice me but the packaging, the service and the entire experience in their Champs-Élysées flagship store that really got me engaged. The sales assistant was very helpful and friendly. She even went through the trouble to get me the address when I asked if she could point me to the nearest  Hermès store. Not to mention Guerlain and any other beauty stores in Paris are very generous with samples. As for Sephora, of course I couldn't avoid it, just to pick up several favorites that are not available in Kuala Lumpur. Another great store in Paris that I would recommend is Marionnaud Parfumerie. It's smaller than Sephora but more cozy. Shopping for beauty products in Paris is like no other. It's heaven!!

Tenue du jour: Peplum Dress

Allow me to divert your attention from the travel posts to some outfit pictures that we shot last weekend. This is a fashion blog after all. :)
You probably know by now that I'm a little crazy for anything in mint green color. I snapped up this tweed peplum tube dress from Zara for €25. It was on sale and it matches this sequin collar so well that I just couldn't resist. I soften and romanticize the look with a pale pink cropped top and a shell bracelet I got at flea market eons ago. It kinda remind me of the colors of Ladurée macaroons. Do you agree?

I Amsterdam

I am finally done with my assignments and have a little extra time to put together some photos from our trip to Amsterdam before a long day of work and then some revision at night for next week's exam. These photos are taken by Alvin and me with an Olympus semi-pro camera, except one (a great one) taken by a very nice man behind the hotdog stand. I hope you're not overwhelmed by photo-overload. :)

Instagram Photos (Amsterdam)

In case you haven't seen my instagram photos from Amsterdam, I have compiled them into a collage. Follow me @thestylechemistry if you like. I'll try to pull the rest of the touristy photos from Amsterdam together very soon. Have a nice weekend, everyone. :)

Soft Pastels

We shot these photos in the hotel room because the weather was so gloomy and windy that it was almost impossible to walk on the street in a flimsy chiffon tube dress. Now that I'm back, the weather in Paris is so beautiful that they turn the sidewalk of Seine river into Paris-Plage, an artificial beach where you can sunbathe and do some people watching. :(

Shopping In Paris

Our last day in Paris was spent shopping on Rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré . The Hermès boutique was so crowded with tourists that it was impossible to browse around. I went in, got what I wanted and left. After shopping, I was contemplating whether I should check out the exhibition of Helmut Newton's works or wander around Paris, just to take in the view. I chose the latter. We wandered from Grand Palais to Trocadéro on foot. It was great watching a crew filming near Bateaux Mouches and eating ice-cream next to the Eiffel Tower.

If you notice that I have not been carrying a purse or bag in all my previous posts, it was because I almost got mugged on our first day in Paris, near the l'Opéra. A lady (an illegal immigrant, I believe) had one hand in my purse and the other hand around my shoulder. Luckily, Alvin reacted quickly, yanked her hand out of my purse and pushed her away. I'm just glad that nobody got hurt. Passers-by were very kind to stop and asked if I was alright. So, yeah, no purse or bag for me throughout the trip. :(

Ladurée In The Park

The highlight of the trip is probably the day spent wandering around Avenue Montaigne and striking crazy photograph poses in l'Atelier Renault, Champ Élysées before dropping in Sephora and Guerlain flagship store to pick up some beauty products. The sales assistant in Guerlain was very helpful and made my shopping experience with Guerlain a wonderful one. I finally got my hand on the latest Guerlain perfume, La Petite Robe Noir. If you want one yourself, it'll be available worldwide in September. I hope I'll be able to shoot some photos of these new beauty products soon.

We also had Ladurée on the park of Champ de Mars while watching the little French kids play. They are so adorable. In the evening, we had dinner at Le 7ème Vin. We sampled foie gras, escargots, scallops and duck confit all at once. The staffs were friendly and food was fantastic. Pure decadence! Alvin had a glass of French wine while I had orange juice because I had to stay up and study for my mid-term exam. :(

Café Angelina

As promised, here are some photos of my visit to the famous Café Angelina. If you like hot chocolate, you should really try the Chocolat l'Africain. It's their specialty. The hot chocolate is so thick and pure it looks like a melted chocolate bar in a cup. Also, Montblanc is something not to be missed if you have a sweet tooth. Give it a try.  :)

From Paris With Louvre

Some of you probably know that I just came back from a short trip to Amsterdam and Paris. It was raining the whole time I was there, so I didn't get to take good outfit photos, especially when in Amsterdam. I will post some touristy photos of Amsterdam though.

In the mean time, here are some photos taken from a day spent gaping at the breathtaking view from Pont Des Arts before visiting Louvre and taking a stroll in Jardin des Tuileries. The view from Pont Des Arts is so romantic, which is why many couples had left their hearts there. When I said they left their hearts there, I meant those personalized love padlocks that lined the grate of the bridge, which makes the bridge even more romantic. And yes, I went to the famous Café Angelina. More of that soon.

Back to my outfit, I love how the studs on my tights when paired with these shoes add a little extra edge to the prim and proper blazer.
