About

Welcome and Thank You for visiting The Style Chemistry (by Irene Yap), a photo diary of my sartorial journey.

I'm Irene Yap, a chemist, a postgraduate student at University of Malaya, a fashion blogger and most important of all, an ardent francophile from Kuala Lumpur.

What is The Style Chemistry about?
It's a channel to share all the wonderful things I'm really passionate about, which are fashion and photography. I'm not a professional when it comes to fashion, styling or photography but I know what I like and I hope you'll like it too.

Where do I get my fashion scoop from?
I read Harper's Bazaar (Malaysia), Nylon, Jalouse, French Vogue & Elle religiously. I spend most of my free time stalking lookbook.nu and the sartorialist.blogspot.com.

Where do I shop?
I can shop anywhere from Zara and Topshop for highstreet style to Ebay for vintage items. It has to be H&M whenever I'm abroad.

My favourite designers?
Karl Lagerfeld and I think Marc Jacobs is a genius.

What's my style?
I don't stick to a certain style and I certainly don't follow trend. I wear whatever I like and that's why some of the clothes you see on my blog are probably old stuff I purchased decades ago. However, old world glamour works best for me most of the time.

What are the essential staples in my wardrobe?
It has to be something versatile like a crisp white shirt with French cuffs and my Zara blazer in black. Also, I'm a pearl necklace and diamond studs kinda girl.

What are my beauty must-haves?
Sunscreen is definitely a must-have considering I live in a tropical country where it's summer all year round. I use mostly products recommended by my dermatologist. They beat over-the-counter (OTC) products anytime.

What make-up products I can't live without?
Nars blusher, Chanel liquid eyeliner, concealer and nail polish in every hue.

What is my signature scent?
Chanel No.5! Other favourite includes Annick Goutal Petite Cherie.

When am I happiest?
I appreciate rolling on a 1000 thread count Egyptian cotton bed sheet and drinking ice cold Evian mineral water from a Bohemia crystal glass as much as I appreciate waking up to the smell of French toast Alvin made for me. Another simple pleasure in life? A nice dinner with my family never fail to put a smile on my face.
